Considered by many to be a seminal leader of 20th century design, Florence Knoll Bassett left her mark on the design industry by creating such classic pieces as her famous Florence Knoll Lounge Collection and her collection of desks, credenzas, coffee, side and end tables. Studying architecture under Mies van der Rohe and working with Bauhaus founder, Walter Gropius—Knoll moved on to be a leader within the industry. With husband Hans, she started Knoll—championing the Bauhaus approach to furniture design—offering objects that reflect design, technological innovation and mass production--beliefs that went on to revolutionize interior space planning. Her application of design principles in solving space problems were radical departures from the standard practice in the 1950s, but were quickly adopted and remain widely used today.
