Schwab Corporation History
Founded in 1872 in Lafayette, Indiana, Schwab Safe Company is one of Lafayette's oldest continuously operational industries. The Schwab Safe Company early credits include horse drawn carriages, a wide range of castings including stoplight bases and sewer grates and covers. Many of those covers and grates are still in use in Lafayette and other communities around the country.
In February 1964 Schwab Safe Company acquired the assets of the Midwest Safe Company's Cannelton, Indiana plant, which we operate under the Schwab name as well as the facility in Lafayette, Indiana.
On January 1, 2003, Schwab Corp. was acquired by two private investors, Donald J. Ehrlich and Steven W. Norfleet of Lafayette, Indiana. As a result of the acquisition, the Company has been recapitalized to allow for a period of growth. The new management team has a proven record in manufacturing and product design. With new people in the areas of sales, engineering and manufacturing, they anticipate that they will soon be at the forefront of our industry. They will focus our efforts on new product development, increasing the performance of on-time delivery, and making changes in the manufacturing process to incorporate more contemporary machines and procedures. Schwab is very excited about the future of the Company and look forward to combining new ideas with a very experienced and devoted workforce. They are committed to customers, suppliers and associates to become the industry standard in providing the highest quality products and customer service.
