We use these as mail slots outside offices. They are transparent, so are relatively unobstrusive, that is, they don't become a design element in-and-of-themselves. One feature we like, but did not think of when buying them, is that the opening at the bottom allows them to be dusted out more easily and also allows people to retrieve short items that don't reach all the way to the top (small envelopes, etc.).
