It’s important to keep your spirits high and try your best to keep a positive work environment in the office. Keeping a sense of humor can be tough at times, with things like tight deadlines, boring meetings, and an overbearing boss. It’s supposed to be work, not play, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t have a little fun. Little things like tasteful jokes and office pranks can help pass the otherwise endless hours you spend at your desk every day. Here are a few of the more well known and entertaining office pranks.

Tin Foil Office
When a coworker is on vacation or simply out of the office for an extended period of time, it’s always a good idea to completely cover their entire desk with aluminum foil. Not just the desk, but the computer, phone, and even individual office supplies if you feel so inclined. Upon their return, your coworker will love their shiny, futuristic looking new office space!

Office Supply Jell-O
I can personally think of few things that are more humorous than a fellow employee reaching into their drawer to retrieve their stapler, only to find that it has been completely incased in Jell-o. This particular prank takes a certain amount of patience, as it takes time to make the Jell-o mold. In my opinion, the end totally justifies the means.

Toothpaste Oreos
This prank also takes a little amount of prep time. Buy a package of Oreo cookies, carefully remove the crème from the middle of each cookie, and then replace the filling with toothpaste. Reassemble the cookies and arrange them on a plate. Get to work early and place the cookies in the break room with a sign that reads “Free Cookies”. Sit back and enjoy the hilarity.

Rebuild a Keyboard
This one is great. Take a coworkers keyboard, remove the letter keys, and then rearrange them back on the keyboard. Now, when your coworker returns, when they begin to type they will be confused as to why nothing is making any sense. For the ultimate prank, rearrange the letters so that they spell something funny. If you do it right, it should take a solid couple of minutes before the victim can figure out what’s going on.

Don’t do anything at All
This prank is purely a mind trick and is all about paranoia. Talk about the various office pranks you’ve pulled throughout the years at a very audible level in front of another coworker. Make sure that they can hear you. Then every time they come by your desk, hide a document or something quickly to make them feel you are hiding something. Then when they go to the bathroom, move something on their desks. Make sure it’s noticeable, so that they will know you’ve done something to their desk when they return. They will most likely spend the rest of the day trying to figure out what it is that you did.

Office pranks are a great way to lighten the mood in an otherwise stuffy work environment. Just make sure the subject of your pranks can take a joke and that what you’re doing doesn’t break any conduct or sexual harassment rules. There’s a fine line between funny and offensive and there is nothing worse than losing your job over a harmless joke.
