The combo comes on a sticker on the front; something like 4 turns to L stop on 60, 3 turns R to 40, 2 turns L to 15, one turn R to 10. It was flat out wrong. The scary part was that just by spinning the combo I could pick it, never having touched a safe before in my life. the real combo was 4x to L(or whatever to clear it) to anywhere from 55 to 60, ONE turn R to plus or minus 3 of what they'd said, ONE turn L to near the number, and a half turn to the last digit (within 10 of it anyway). You can feel the tumblers catching and releasing or whatever, and feel when it falls into place. I bet a thief could be inside this safe in under 30 seconds. It took me 10 minutes.
But, I'm just using it for documents and some watches, to deter the casual meth addict or troubled youth. I have insurance coverage for any real loss, and if I can' afford to lose something, I'll use a safe deposit box at the bank.

The interior dimensions are perfect to fit a lock box to quickly access documents and valuables. (Essential for those living in hurricane evacuation areas). The adjustable shelf is a plus. The combination is a deterrent for curious children who like challenges.

I feel that the lock mechanism would probably not deter a moderately experienced thief for long. [...]hope never to find out just how water and fire proof it is so I can't really comment on that; but that is the main reason I pirchased it.

This is a good household safe for typical-size (8 1/2 X 11) documents, but it should have a small drawer included for valuables. As it is, it just has an adjustable shelf.

We had to return the first safe because it would not lock. [...] The safe itself is cumbersome to open due to the number of turns required between each number. It is not easily remembered.

The mechanical lock feels cheap and easy to crack. The handle is plastic and doesen't feel very soldid. It's not so much flimsy as just budget. I have a Gun safe by Stackon that cost roughly the same price and the quality of the materials is far superior
