Herman Miller: The name is synonymous with innovation, design, operational excellence, smart application of technology, and social responsibility. Herman Miller, Inc. studies work and living environments and designs and delivers products and services that make these environments work better. Through problem-solving research and design, the company seeks to develop innovative solutions to real needs in working, healing, learning, and living environments.
Herman Miller began in 1923 as a manufacturer of traditional residential furniture, became a leader in "modern" furniture in the 1930s and 1940s; developed lasting ties through the 1950s with legendary industrial designers who led the company in new directions; transformed the office furniture industry with the first panel system in the 1960s; invented and refined ergonomic work seating in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s; reinvented the geometry of systems furniture in 2000, and is today the second largest office furniture company with customers and locations around the world. Their history of employee participation and ownership and technological innovation has long roots and continues to grow. They have always worked hard to be serious about both people and business. They look at their primary goal as creating great places to work.
George Nelson laid out five tenets of Herman Miller's design philosophy 50 years ago:
While fashion and style have their place, the main criterion for a Herman Miller product has remained constant: Does it truly solve a problem that people care about in a way that improves upon other solutions, or pioneers a new and better answer altogether? The answer is Yes. More on Herman Miller ®...

I'm only 5'4", but find that the chair is too short for the right leg-angle. I will probably need to buy the taller version.

I had a top-of-the-line Aeron chair in my last FT job, and found it very comfortable for hours-on-end sitting as I had to do.

Comments about Herman Miller ® Aeron ® Basic Chair With Graphite Base:
This was a lot of money to spend on a chair, but having sat through several conferences on one, I knew it was worth the money for the comfort. However, it lacks a super key feature I had not appreciated. The arms are set only 5 inches above the seat and are FIXED. I didn't think this would be much of an issue but it really is because they are set so ridiculously low. Try sitting in a kitchen chair working at your computer for hours before considering this chair. At nearly $700 the arms are useless and might as well not even be there. I don't see how they can call something "ergonomic" that cannot be adjusted to fit you. They are asking at least $100 more for the loaded chair so you can adjust the arms you already paid for. This fact is shameful and makes no sense.

Make sure that the fine print is read to define the difference between the Basic and Loaded chair.

Comments about Herman Miller ® Aeron ® Basic Chair With Graphite Base:
The description on any of the different models of chairs on the site didn't make clear that the arms aren't adjustable or moveable on the basic model (though I can change the arm height with a screwdriver and a Torx wrench T-27). I may well have paid more to have that option, if it had been made clear to me!

Comments about Herman Miller ® Aeron ® Basic Chair With Graphite Base:
I love this chair, best desk chair i've ever owned. very comfortable, especially for extended hours. I got the basic version, missing some of the more adjustable features such as arm height... But i was able to take off the plastic holders and use a star head screw driver to manually adjust the arm height. The only thing i don't like is that it creaks some.

Comments about Herman Miller ® Aeron ® Basic Chair With Graphite Base:
The last time I purchased an Aeron chair was about 4-5 years ago. I own 5 of them. The price included just about everything -[$]. I just purchased what they call the basic chair, and was disapointed to find that the arm rests are not adjustable and some of the recline options are absent. Everything must be purchased a-la-carte pushing the price waaay up. Over time, most products decrease in value, not the fabled Herman Miller Aeron Chair. They have ingeniously discovered new ways to make crazy amounts of money by taking away features - kind of like making doors or a windshield options on a car. I'm disapointed this wasn't made more clear to me on the website. The only trouble I've ever had with my Aeron Chairs is the lumbar support cracking over the 5 years. It's happened on all the chairs we have at the office and we just replace that piece. Now I have an expensive 6th Aeron chair with very little adjustability at the same price. Nice.
