Comments about Fire King MediaVault:
Purchased this product for storing my backup files, which are on two external hard drives, in case of fire at our apartment. It is a very sturdy design - looks like it will survive a fire much better than any Sentry safe I've owned (though I'd like to see a review of one surviving a fire). It is not thief-proofed, obviously it is mainly meant to survive the heat of fires, not prying rascals, but with a deep lock and a weight of nearly 75 Lbs, it will deter most hurried in-and-out thieves. Additionally, I found out after getting it that it can fit perfectly in the drawers most filing cabinets (including the one I have - yay!) - so if you have a filing cabinet with a lock, then you can protect your digital data from both the infamy of fires and that of human transgression.
Comments about Fire King MediaVault:
I use this small vault to store computer hard drives. It holds three external 3.5" hard drive enclosures. The interior storage space is much smaller than the exterior size of the unit - the walls of the vault are 1" thick, and there's an interior styrofoam liner 1" thick on the sides and 2" thick on the front and back. The top door is 3" thick. The exterior surface is plastic, which seems like it would melt in a fire, possibly fusing the vault together and preventing it from being opened again. The vault is solidly constructed and the door hinge appears substantial enough. The key is almost a joke though, this vault is not for security. The lock looks like it could be easily picked or pried off and is not substantial enough. The lock bolts to the thin plastic casing, and looks as though it would be easy to pry open with a crowbar. There is no provision to bolt the vault to the floor or chain it to an object, so it would not be too difficult to just take the whole unit.
