If you need a working desk - this is not it. It's best use is convenience/short term use as the desk is not sturdy and can not handle much bearing weight. I was overall satisfied with the quality of components. It does not look like Ameriwood cut many corners to achieve the price point.[...]it really took me less then 20 minutes to assemble the entire unit. There are 8 wood screws, 3 machine screws and 4 nuts you have to deal with and other then that it is very straightforward. Design of the desk is OK but could be better. For one thing, it does not go low enough. 26'' is the minimum height and you have to check whether this would work for your intended use. It did work out fine for me (barely) as a bedside cart but was a bit too high if working from a sofa. One possible solution may be to saw off couple of inches from the main shaft (granted you have a sturdy vise and metal saw), sacrificing a little bit on highest setting (currently at 35'') but allowing the desk to go lower then 26''. But a really critical issue with the design was the decision to allow limitless degree of adjusting both height and desk angle through the use of clamping screws. There are four in total - two to adjust height of the main and auxiliary desks accordingly and two to adjust their angle. You loosen a screw, make an adjustment and tighten it back. The problem is (especially with horizontal angle adjustment) that if you put some reasonably heavy item on your desk, the desk would start drifting lower and lower and may potentially flip over and drop your item on the floor. The solution could be simple - instead of unlimited number of height and angle adjustments, allow only a preset number by drilling several holes in the inner shafts and allowing cramping screws to penetrate into the inner shaft, thus supporting chosen setting by the screw itself and not through the friction only. I did exactly that. Of course, the diameter of the cramping screw dictates how much pressure it can sustain and the ones provided with the cart are not designed to bear more then 20-40 lbs, so you have to be careful or risk breaking the screw.

They were easy to put together. The individual surfaces adjust many ways, which is a particularly nice feature. The height is adjustable individually as well.

If your couch or chair needs more clearance for the base, we bought leg risers, stackit, to resolve that little problem. Perfect as a side table for those in bed or want to relax, lounge in bed.

I bought this for a very small space, under an existing counter, for use as a keyboard tray so I could sit on my couch to work if I liked (using the TV as a monitor). It claims to be 17.5" deep, which we required to fit the product. It turns out that the top is indeed this deep; however the base is not. So it turned out to be a wasted purchase for me. If the base had been smaller, I think it would have done just fine.

This beats the flimsy models that are available at those tech supper-stores. I own TWO of them. I am undergoing a long-term convalescence which keeps me anchore to a recliner. With my two platforms, I can easily roll one into position.
HOT TIP: I got extender cable for my desktop's keyboard, mouse, and flat-screen monitor. Remove (pry up) the back rail, then drill a 1/4" hole in both the table to AND the rear paart of the monitor pedestal. A simple bolt, washer, lock washer, and wingnut give you a safe and solid platform on wheels. If you "cheat" and paint the head of the bolt black, your friends will be waiting for your monitor to tumble from its gravity-defying perch...

I work at home on a laptop a great deal, and this table enables me to use a comfortable chair and to stay more productive. The split surface, which gives you a flat spot while the other side is tilted, is very handy. Easy to assemble, move, and adjust, and stable enough for my purposes, but might be too flimsy for some users. A good value.
